Mrs. Ward’s First Grade Class
About Mrs. Ward
I was born and raised 30 miles north of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on a poultry and dairy farm in Butler County.
I was blessed to be raised in a Christian family and attended a Lutheran elementary school from 1st through 8th
grades. I very much appreciate all the Christian instruction I received there.
I also attended Lutheran colleges, graduating from Concordia Teacher's College (now Concordia University) in Seward,
Nebraska in 1975. I came to Marysville, Ohio after graduation to teach first and second grades at St. John's Lutheran
School. I taught at St. John's for one year, followed by two years in the Marysville Public Schools. During my
time at St. John's I met the man who would one day become my husband.
In 1978 I married David Ward who is from Marysville. Right after we were married, David and I moved to the Washington
D.C. area of Virginia for a short period of time, after which we returned to Marysville
Upon our return to Marysville I was substitute teaching and working part time for the JCPenney catalog store here
in town at that time. I loved working at the catalog store and within a year was made the manager of the store.
I was only going to do that for a "couple of years" and then go back into teaching. Well......that couple
of years became 20+ years! During the last couple of years at JCPenney I began praying about whether I should go
back into teaching or not. I told the Lord that He would have to make it quite obvious to me if He wanted me to
quit Penney's and go back into teaching. I also told Him I would like to get in 20 years, if He would see fit to
allow that for me. Well, guess what! As the Lord would have it, the very year that I reached 20 years with JCPenney
the company announced they were going to reorganize and close the store for which I was working and go to franchise
stores. I had my answer! I locked the store for the last time around 2:00 P.M. on January 6, 2000 and at 4:30 I
was sitting in my first class to become recertified as a teacher. I substituted in Marysville Public Schools during
the day and went to school at night from January to June.
In June of 2000 I was contacted to interview with Trinity Lutheran School and the rest is now history! I have been
teaching first grade since August of 2000 and consider it a real blessing, a privilege, and an honor to be able
to teach in a Christian School where the Lord is the center of our education and can be talked about, talked to,
and honored all day long. I praise the Lord for His leading and guidance in my life! |
